Go the Maroons!

Just a quick blog tonight - State of Origin is about to start. There isn't much to report as most of the day was spent driving from Rubyvale to Charters Towers - we did see a wedge tail eagle on road kill and a flock of more than 100 brolgas. Both of us have never seen so many dead roos along a road and were glad we did the drive in broad daylight.

We did have time to drive up Towers Hill lookout in Charters Towers to see the bunkers left over from WWII, the seismographic station and the many mine shafts left over from the gold rush at Towers Hill. You also get great views over the town and surrounding countryside (which is much greener than that around Rubyvale).

A bush poet recited poetry at our van park in the early evening - he managed to get many laughs. He started on a high note for me as he was wearing a Queensland guernsey.

The pictures were all taken on Towers Hill.
