An afternoon by Elizabeth Creek

We had a 450 km drive from Charters Towers to Mt Surprise today. We made good time and arrived at our van park with time to explore the adjacent Elizabeth Creek. The volcanic nature of the countryside is evident in the many basalt rocks we dodged on the path to the creek. The creek itself was lined with Paperbarks and reeds and even had a small cascade.

The path to the creek winds through long grasses:

I love the texture of paperbark and had to take a picture up close:

The creek had plenty of water:

Butterflies and dragonflies flittered along our route.

We are touring the lava caves at Undara tomorrow. I'm doing the half day tour and Barbara is going all out on the full day tour.
